“When I write songs, I just write whatever’s in my heart,” says Britt, who co-wrote each of the album’s tracks on her latest release Gold. But while she didn’t intentionally push her Capitol Records album Gold into a more pop direction than her sophomore effort The Lost Get Found (a 2009 release that debuted on the Top 100 Billboard Chart), she did realize early on that its highly danceable, hook-laced songs would likely have a broad appeal. “A lot of times I’m writing about what I’m personally going through,” she says, “and if I’m facing these sorts of things, then there’s got to be other people dealing with them too.”
For Britt, the journey to her own success began as a child growing up in Salisbury, North Carolina singing in the church choir for nearly her entire life. After high school Britt chose to forgo college in favor of dedicating herself to her music full-time. She released a pair of independent records in the two years following high school and then — at age 19 — moved to Nashville to further pursue her singing/songwriting career. Soon after arriving in Nashville and showcasing her early collection of pop songs, Britt landed a record deal and ended up releasing her debut album Say It for EMI by the time she was 21.
Britt Nicole’s first CD release began her string of chart-topping hits such as “Believe” and “Set the World on Fire.” In 2009 Britt released The Lost Get Found with the single of the same name. Her latest release, Gold, has already seen three chart-topping singles hit the airwaves with “Gold,” “Ready or Not” and “All This Time.”

No doubt Hawk Nelson has loyal fans. They are known for a rigorous tour schedule, working on albums while on the road and playing in front of people as much as possible. Hawk Nelson does well reaching the younger demographic that can be so difficult to get through to, but now, as their music is maturing, they hope to broaden their reach. With more mature album themes like living purposefully and more challenging lyrics, they surely will.
As much change as Hawk Nelson has undergone in the last year, new lead singer Jonathan Steingard explains the DNA of the band is still the same. “We’re still that high energy band that a church or youth group would book if they want to have a fun youth night,” says Steingard. We want to take what we’ve been and not leave it behind, but grow it a little bit and hopefully be a lot more intentional about what we’re saying.”

The five guys that make up Tooth & Nail Records, Nine Lashes, have one common thread: to stand up for what they believe and pour their hearts into everything they do. Their 2012 debut radio single “Anthem of the Lonely” is a band self-description about taking a stand for your beliefs even if that means that you are standing alone. The band’s name is derived from the whip used to beat Jesus – cat of nine tails. They state Isaiah 53:5 as their reminder that the wounds Jesus suffered was for our restoration, and the name Nine Lashes reminds the band of those wounds. “We never want to forget what He did for us, and we hope that our band name beckons people to ask this very question – it is what we are all about,” Jefferson shares.
